Manufacturing-Processing PRELIMINARY PILOT PLANT STUDIES OF THE PRODUCTION OF RAW SUGAR FROM SORGHUM
نویسندگان
چکیده
Preliminary pilot plant experiments have been made in order to evaluate " a process for removing starch, a principal deterrent to the commercial usage of sweet sorghums (Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench) as a supplementary sugar crop. Defecation of the dilute raw juice at low temperature and at a pH of 7.7-7.9 with the addition of a flocculant resulted in an 89% removal of starch. A similar defecation of the 30-35 brix semi-syrup provided an overall elimination of 98% of the original starch. A and B sugars boiled from the processed syrups contained an average of 50 ppm of starch and were of good quality. C sugars contained an average of 140 ppm of starch and 7.44% carbonate ash. Higher than normal levels of minerals in the juices, principally K salts, and an excessive addition of ·CaCI 2 which was used to assure effective elimination of the objectionable aconitate ion, were considered responsible for the KCI content of the C sugars. Reduction of the quantity ofCaCI 2 used and processing of mature stalks are suggested as means of alleviating this situation.

Effect of Sink Removal and Magnesium Spraying on Photosynthetic Pigments and Sugar Yield of Two Sweet Sorghum Cultivars
The ever-increasing problem of water scarcity in arid and semi-arid regions of Iran has necessitated the demand to replacement of sugar beet plantation by more water-use efficient plants. Sweet sorghum is one of the sugars plants with low water requirements that potentiates cost-effective sugar production in different regions. However, physiological aspects of sugar yield in this plant is not c...

Raw cane sugar is one of the most important product in the sugar industry and is the main raw material for the white sugar production. Morphological and physical properties of this product might influence the final white sugar. For instance, the behavior during centrifugation, transport and storage is related to the characteristics of these crystals. The object of this study was to determine th...

There is little information about the effects of ethephon ripening hormone on the yield of sweet sorghum in Thailand. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the impact of ethephon hormone applied at different growth stages of three cultivars of sweet sorghum on its growth and yield. The experiment was conducted from December 2016 to May 2017 at a research plot of the Faculty of Agricultural Te...

Sorghum is a wonder crop from physiological point of view. It is the most important cereal crop, after rice and wheat. The number of reports describing the use of transgenic Sorghum for basic studies in Biotechnology is still limited when compared to other crops. In one hand, the success of the transformation techniques is mainly dependent upon the availability of optimal protocols for highly ...
